Before there were love tokens in the United states, Great Britain began the tradition of engraving keepsake coins roughly 150 years earlier.  Generally both sides were engraved so if submitting coins, please image both sides.  Most often copper coins were engraved but there are a few silver coins as well.  Note that the engraving ranges from professional to “homemade.”
